The Magic of CanivaleVenice - Febuary 2007

The Magic of Canivale

Venice in northern Italy, the mystical city of canals, woos and exhilarates visitors like no other city on earth. And, during Carnevale, the city turns on the magic like at no other time. Taking place in the fortnight prior to the start of Lent, it is a time when excess is celebrated, colour and style are omnipresent and where the magical masks of skilled artisans offer the ability for you to create a new persona, for a day or so, or perhaps for a lifetime!

The elegant and frenetic city will offer much during our stay here in February 2007. You will attend, in period gown, a masked ball at one of Venice’s palatial villas. We will drink the world famous “Cioccolatte” at Florians just as the nobles did in earlier times; we will participate in a mask-making workshop, visit the wonderful palace of Venice’s power, the Doges Palace; take a ride across to the small and colourful island of Burano and be guided through the canals by a singing gondolier.

The papers presented will be diverse and enlightening, and will include the special appearance of Casanova who will describe something of his era.

And being Venice, the city of surprises, expect more, much more, than you came for.
